AP Program Changes

Changes in the AP program registration process and fee schedule for 2019-2020 have high school counselors concerned that wealthier students will benefit while low income students will be further disadvantaged.

We'll be talking about this issue in the CTFI session at PCACAC's 54th Annual Conference and look forward to discussing this and many other current and relevant topics with you!

New! Counselor Resource Center

Our new Counselor Resource Committee (CRC) - led by Kathleen Martin, Director of College Counseling at Wilmington Friends School (DE) - has developed a Counselor Resource Center for admission counselors. Similar to the college fair resource page, the CRC will compile valuable links and PD opportunities for you. Access resource links and the online event calendar at www.pcacac.org/counselor-resource!

Want to share a resource or announce a counselor event? Contact Kathleen at [email protected].

The GRC joins NACAC to advocate for YOU!

NACAC ADVOCACY DAY
WASHINGTON, DC
PCACAC was well represented for the NACAC Advocacy Day on the Hill, held Monday, March 4. Our team included high school and college counselors sharing their voices and stories with regard to NACAC”s legislative priorities:  College Access, Student Protection, International Mobility, the Dream Act and DACA, School Safety, Anti-Discrimination, and Budget/Appropriations. Staffers greeted us warmly and seemed to understand the need for a lower student to counselor ratio as we explained our goal of 250:1. I am so proud of and grateful to our members who gave time and significant contributions to our efforts.  #NACACHillDay

A huge "Thank you!" to these individuals who attended (left to right in the photo above):  Ginger Miller, Government Relations Chair; GRC committee members: Rachel Cleaver, Erika Davis, Natasha Blake-McDowell, Alicia Oglesby, President Jake Talmage, Melissa Hypolite, President-Elect Joel Lang, GRC Vice Chair Nick Orban, Katie McEnroe, and Dan Zawacki. Missing from the photograph but so glad they could join us are are NACAC Research Associate Pooja Patel and Lucien Giordano from Dulwich College of China.

For more information or to join the GRC, contact Ginger Miller, GRC Chair at [email protected] or visit www.pcacac.org/government-relations.

RURAL & SMALL TOWN SIG
The NACAC Rural and Small Town SIG was approved by the NACAC Membership Committee just a few months ago. Since then, they have welcomed more than 300 members from high schools, colleges and universities, community-based organizations, vendors, and higher education faculty into their group.  The purpose of the SIG is to gather folks who 1) are from rural and small town communities, 2) work in offices that serve rural and small town students/counselors, and 3) have interests in college access issues that affect rural areas. This SIG offers a suite of resources, such as podcasts and readings, as well as lists of federally-designated rural schools.  Interested college admission professionals can complete this Google Form to hear about meetings and resources.

A FREE RESOURCE!
Brought to you by NACAC's Communications Committee: a preview of the Journal of College Admission which discusses the importance of advocacy in college counseling.  Feel free to share it across your social networks!
