A Message from our President
Spring is upon us which means conference season! We are looking forward to our 58th annual PCACAC Conference at the Hyatt Regency Resort in Cambridge, MD, April 2-4, 2023. Our conference planning chairs, Damian Garcia and Julia Hixson, along with our “ever steady and at the ready” Executive Assistant, Lynn Lyon-Vaiden, have many fruitful conference happenings planned for us. Rosemary Martin Edwards, Conference Sessions Chair, and Charlain Bailey, Professional Development Co-Chair have a fantastic slate of educational sessions for us--some of which are eligible for Continuing Education credits (CEs). CEs are needed by our public school counselors and our National Board Certified members for their certifications. And, public thanks to Bowie State University who is sponsoring PCACAC towards our CE initiative.
We are looking forward to our inaugural conference cornhole tournament ($10/person, $20/team--registration onsite). Thank you to Hampden-Sydney College for their generous sponsorship to help make this happen--the PCACAC/Hampden-Sydney Cornhole Tournament is where I’ll be at 8pm on Monday evening--hope to see you there. Thank you to all of our sponsors and exhibitors for their generous support.
One of the additions to our conference this year is a focus on mindfulness. Shanae Giles and Jack Schneider (PCACAC members) will present a session on mindfulness and they will be leading us in opportunities for mindfulness practice several times throughout our conference. Look out for these opportunities in the WebEx app!
And, we also have important business to attend to at our conference. I look forward to our Membership Meeting on Monday afternoon where we will vote on our Bylaws changes (the removal of “delegate” and “assembly” from the bylaws) as well as an announcement of our new membership model which brings us in alignment with NACAC’s membership model. Additionally, we will announce PCACAC’s next President-Elect.
There are many exciting and important things happening in PCACAC. I look forward to sharing time with you in Cambridge!
Sincerely, Ann Marie Strauss, PCACAC President

As the Credentials and Bylaws Chair for PCACAC, I am proposing a series of amendments to the PCACAC Bylaws related to NACAC Assembly and elected Delegates.
As many of you know, NACAC held a special member vote in the fall of 2022 to remove references to the Assembly or delegates from NACAC bylaws. These changes were made at the NACAC level in order to make NACAC governance more transparent and accessible to all members.
Because there is no longer a NACAC Assembly of Delegates, PCACAC no longer needs to elect members as Delegates. As a result, I propose a series of amendments and revisions to PCACAC Bylaws that remove mentions of Delegates and/or Assembly. You can find a marked up and clean version of the proposed bylaws linked on the PCACAC Credentials and Bylaws website page.
As a reminder, PCACAC bylaws state that bylaws can only be amended by a two-thirds vote of attendees at a PCACAC membership meeting. As such, the vote on the bylaw amendments will be a business item during the Membership Meeting (April 3, 11:45am – 1:15pm) at the 58th PCACAC Conference in Cambridge, MD.
Please feel free to contact Nick Orban, Chair, Credentials and Bylaws, directly with any questions, comments, or concerns regarding these proposed amendments.

Volunteer for NACAC Baltimore 2023
The PCACAC Local Arrangements Committee (LAC) will work alongside NACAC to plan events and welcome conference attendees to Charm City! Our LAC chairs will need members of our profession to co-chair and serve on various subcommittees to make it all happen.
We hope that you will be interested in joining other college admission professionals as a member of the Local Arrangements Committee. Each of the subcommittees needs members to begin the long-range planning necessary to insure a successful conference. You can read more detailed descriptions for each subcommittee here.
We hope that you reach out to one of us and join the LAC efforts for NACAC Baltimore 2023! NACAC Baltimore LAC Co-Chairs: Lisa Hill, Goucher College & Jayne Caflin Fonash, JCFONASH Consulting
