55th Annual Conference

We hope this message finds you in good health and well-being.

With the current restrictions on mass gatherings in the state of Virginia and in our country due to COVID-19, we have canceled our 55th Annual Conference that was scheduled for April 19-21 in Harrisonburg, Virginia.  For the past several weeks, we have been working with NACAC officials as well as the Hotel Madison to ensure the safety of all those involved. It is in the best interest of everyone to practice social distancing at this time.  All those who registered for the conference in Harrisonburg will receive a full refund.  Please allow us some time to process those refunds.

We are very excited to announce that our conference planning committee is working to plan a virtual conference that we hope you will participate in.  As always, we plan to offer many outstanding sessions that will allow you continued growth and education within our field.  Please complete the following short survey by Monday, March 30th to help us plan for our virtual conference. We want to make the most of our time together and appreciate your input.

Thank you for your patience and understanding!

* Please not that the election slate for President-Elect and delegates will be coming out soon.

* Please note that during our virtual conference we will host a virtual business meeting and will be voting on by-laws at that time.

NACAC Coronavirus Impact Resources

NACAC has launched two crowdsourced tools to provide updated information and insight into how the college admission process has been impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. College Admission Status Update and Secondary Schools College Admission Services UpdateAll secondary schools are invited to add their information to this useful resource by using this form.

A very successful DC Advocacy Day!

NACAC Hill Day and pre-planning on March 8 and 9 was attended by the largest group of PACAC members in recent years. Eight meetings were held with staffers and/or representatives from the following offices:

  • Maryland:  Senator Cardin, Senator Van Hollen, Representative Trone, and Representative Hoyer
  • Virginia:  Senator Kaine, Representative Beyer and Senator Warner
  • West Virginia:  Senator Manchin

Our documents were also delivered to the office of Representative Rochester from Delaware. We are grateful for the time these representatives took with us as we advocated for all students and counselors. Conversations focused on the importance of a lower student to counselor ratio, rigorous curriculum, need based financial aid, student protections for unscrupulous institutions, support for undocumented students, and student mobility. Requests were made to fully fund Title IV, Part A for student support, to continue to work for school safety without arming teachers, and to support counseling for mental health as well as that for post secondary planning.

As Chair of Government Relations, I am especially grateful to our members who attended. I write with a hopeful spirit as I wish you all well in these extraordinary times. Ginger Miller, GRC Chair, [email protected].

SIGs - Special Interest Groups

A SIG is a Special Interest Group that brings colleagues together to explore a topic or population in higher education/    K-12 through discussion, networking and resource sharing. PCACAC has served as a leading affiliate in many ways including launching our very own SIGs at our 2018 Conference. We have grown from 3 to 5 SIGs in just one year, to include: African-American, LatinX, Independent Education Counselors/Consultants, Rural, and First-Generation College Students.

To learn more, connect with our SIGs Chair, James B. Massey, Jr. at [email protected].

We simply can't do it without you!

PCACAC invites you to contribute to our new endowment fund - created to help counselors whose schools, districts or programs are underfunded and/or who need extra support.  With your support, we can provide additional professional development opportunities, programming, and materials for those counselors most in need.  GIVE HERE
