Impact Award
The PCACAC Impact Award is awarded to an individual or organization that has made a tangible influence to further inclusion, access and success initiatives within the PCACAC region. As a regional affiliate, PCACAC has a clear history of producing leaders who impacted the inclusion, access and success of students and professionals in the admissions process, both at the regional level and through leadership in NACAC. This award seeks to honor individuals or organizations who have made opportunities for students who are under represented, underserved, and/or marginalized in postsecondary education. Considerations for Selection:
Membership in PCACAC is not a criterion for selection but special consideration will be given to professionals and organizations in the PCACAC region. 2026 Recipient
Executive Director Cesar Chavez Public Charter School There are a few people who are so impactful, so recognizable, they go by just one name: Cher. And in our profession, in this region… there’s one name that carries that same kind of weight, and tonight we honor a leader who has spent his career expanding opportunities for students—while also lifting up and challenging all of us as professionals to be better. Someone who doesn’t just talk about values like access, equity, and integrity—but insists we actually live them. Read more of the tribute to Sanjay Mitchell that was shared by Adam Ortiz.
2025 Recipient
For over 20 years, this year’s recipient has been a passionate advocate for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in college admissions, using his platform to open doors for underrepresented students across the region. As a first-generation college going student from Madison Heights, VA, he went on to become a basketball legend at Roanoke College, recently being inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame. James, affectionately called "JP" by many, his journey began with a deep commitment to rural Virginia, where he has worked tirelessly to break down barriers for students in underserved communities. His efforts included direct outreach to students in these areas, ensuring they had the information and resources necessary to navigate the college admissions process.
